Summary: Beware the price...
Comment: LEGOs are a fantastic toy for a young mind. But it seems I could use some sharpening of my own adult mind. I purchased the Ultimate LEGO Building Set from Amazon and i received it promptly. The problem was i thought i was getting a larger set. It turns out that the exact same set sold for LESS THAN HALF of what i paid for it here on Amazon. By the time i went back to my local store to buy the same item, it was sold out due to the holidays. So, i have learned my lesson to shop local first and always shop around (not just online) when making any purchase.

Summary: Don't base your expectations on the size of the box
Comment: I am happy with the purchase overall - the amount of pieces for the price was better than I could find in any stores and comparable to what I found online in other places. All said and done, this ended up being the best deal by a few dollars.
My one complaint is this: upon arrival at my house I was delighted with the outward appearance of this - exactly what I expected. But after I unpackaged all of the Lego the container was barely 1/3 full! It was a big disappointment. I am considering buying three similar products so that our Lego collection will be adequate and use the extra containers to store other toys...but geesh! when did plastic get so expensive?

Summary: Probably for 6+ older...
Comment: For the most part this was a good toy. I got this for my 5 year-old on his birthday, but most of the pieces are a little too complex for him. Also, the base plate Lego that you build Legos on is way too small (may 3" X 3") to build things one. Lastly, the pamphlet shows great ideas on what you can build with the Legos, but only SHOWS you how to make about 10 of them.

Summary: Great Set for Diverse Building
Comment: We bought this set for my 4 year old son for his birthday and it was/is an immediate hit with him and his 7 year old sister. As other reviewers have mentioned, it is more of a starter set than an ultimate set, but if you read the product review you will see that at 400 pieces it is not the largest (or most expensive) set. The tub is terrific for storage and is big enough to hold constructed pieces between building sessions.
We'll be adding more sets with specialized pieces, building plates, etc. But this kit does have lots of options for building houses, cars, helicopters, airplanes animals etc. Given that and compared to some of the other sets, this is actually a pretty good bargain for $25.
